Abstract

Several thousand gladioli cultivars have been created in the world. In Lithuania gladioli are the most popular plants with flower breeders who successfully carry out selection with these flowers. At present in the collection of Vilnius University Botanical Garden there are 125 gladioli cultivars of both foreign and Lithuanian origin. Gladioli are valued for the cultivars of blossom colours, simple growing and fast propagation. The diversity of the gladioli blossom’s colours is huge – from a snow-white to dark brown colour. Here the gladioli were appriciated to their morphological characteristics and decorative qualities.
