Abstract

The article analyzes the experience of inland waterway transport in cities. The research is focused on why and how these systems were created. Research has shown that urban water transport systems can be used to transport both passengers and the urban freight. Alternative water transport routes make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the transport system. It has been observed that the role of both private and governmental politicians, entrepreneurs and municipal support is important in the implementation of such logistical projects. The discussion presents possible solutions for Klaipeda city transport system by integrating water vehicles into it.
